![]() ![]() ![]() Bob noted that this time around, the company is keenly focused on highly scalable GPU architectures that are derived from its integrated mobile platform. There was a lot to unpack here for Intel, as you can see, but I did also take the opportunity to ask for a quick update on the company’s discrete graphics efforts. ![]() Swan Intel CorporationĪs a sort of wrap-up here, I’ll share some insight offered by Intel CEO, Bob Swan, as I was fortunate enough to join him on a call last week, in the lead-up to the company’s various announcements today. These solutions will bring with them Thunderbolt connectivity for the first time in a Chromebook product. Intel will also be amping-up Chromebook performance with its 11 th Gen Core processor technology later in Q1 this year, based on Tiger Lake, including the introduction of an Intel Evo platform-based Chromebook offering. Intel didn’t provide exact availability dates for these vPro-enabled 11 th Gen products, other than to note that over 60 new laptop designs will arrive in market this year. ![]() Dell’s recently announced Latitude 9420 is an Intel Evo vPro design that will incorporate this technology, sometime this Spring when it launches at retail. Some machines may also include Intel Visual Sensing technology that will allow the machine to detect user presence and interaction, waking the display automatically. Intel has also rolled out an Evo vPro platform, which will bring a similar designed and verified product offering in conjunction with laptop ecosystem OEM partners, targeting similar premium experiences and build quality, along with meeting critical metrics for instant wake and battery life performance. Of course, central to the new Intel vPro offering are features like advancement remote management technologies that are critical to IT departments, as well as a new version of Intel Hardware Shield that the company claims delivers the “industry’s first silicon-enabled AI threat detection against ransomware and crypto-mining attacks.” In conference with Intel, I asked what silicon engines powered this feature and it was reported that existing CPU and GPU resources, along with Intel DL (Deep Learning) Boost neural network instructions, will accelerate these workloads. New Intel 11th Gen vPro Processor Platform Security Benefits Intel The processor will also be backwards compatible with 400 Series chipset motherboards, though Intel is highlighting new 500 Series chipset motherboards with integrated USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connectivity for 20Gbps external device throughput. The new octal-core Core i9-11900K will Turbo up to 5.3GHz with a snappy all-core boost clock of 4.8GHz, and Intel claims it will deliver up to a 19% IPC lift over the company’s 10 th Gen Comet Lake-S CPUs, along with up to 50% higher integrated graphics performance and 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes direct off the CPU root, for Gen4 SSD and discrete PCIe 4 GPU support. It’s a smart move, until the company can finally migrate higher-end desktop architectures to its 10nm SuperFin fab process later this year. Rocket Lake-S is actually a 14nm back-port of Intel’s 10nm Ice Lake core architecture (Sunny Cove), combined with Tiger Lake’s Xe-LP graphics, and it’s code-named Cypress Cove. On the desktop side of the house, Intel demonstrated 11 th Gen Core S-series desktop processor technology, codenamed Rocket Lake-S. Intel Rocket Lake-S 11th Gen Core i9-11900K 8-Core Desktop Processor Intel So let’s break down what the company has unveiled for CES 2021, starting with the introductions I’d expect to make the biggest impact in the market. “Only Intel has the breadth of products spanning multiple architectures, our large, open ecosystem, the sheer scale of manufacturing footprint, and the deep technical expertise our customers need to unlock opportunities in this era of distributed intelligence,” said Intel Executive Vice President Gregory Bryant at Intel’s “Do More” keynote showcase today, with a number of Intel execs. With several new CPU platforms that span business, education, mobile, gaming and the data center, the company is laying claim to hundreds of new PC design wins that are on the way, starting in Q1 2021. The 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off today and Intel is out in front, hitting the ground running with major new processor technology announcements across virtually all the core markets it serves.
